Big Jubilee Lunch Picnic 2012

Breaston’s Big Jubilee Lunch Picnic in 2012 got the thumbs up!

The event, on Sunday 3rd June, should have taken place on the village green (called Duffield Close). Due to the rain though, it was changed at the last minute to St. Michael's Church Hall instead. Fortunately gazebos were up in the outside area, because the event was so well supported that there needed to be picnicking both inside and out!

Knight in shining armourOur knight did a fantastic job as compère including presenting the winners of the poster competition with their prizes. Well done Mya, Olivia, Maddie and Gwyneth!

Thanks to the Cooperative Store, Breaston and Hamley’s Toy Store, London, for their raffle donations, and to Breaston WI for running refreshments. Thank you also to Breaston Parish Council for pledging a generous donation towards the cost of the day.

Members from BreastFace paintingon Community Forum, St Michael’s Church and Breaston Pre-School Playgroup Committee were involved in the organisation of the event and Playgroup also ran activities for the youngsters at the event including face-painting.

The children from Stepping Stones dance group did wonderful performances of Run Rabbit Run, and a Lindy-Hop number to a nostalgic Glen Miller tune. Singers from The Village Singers entertained the crowd and led the singing of songs from each of the four countries of Great Britain, a Beatles Medley and of course the National Anthem finale.

What a wonderful way to share in the celebrations as a community and to say Congratulations to Her Majesty the Queen for 60 years of duty and service.
