Get involved

Do you run any of the organisations found in this website?  And would you like to keep the information about your organisation up-to-date? You can!

Getting a login

Simply request a login (click the Create an account link in the login panel on the left). You will be sent an automated email to confirm your email address, and then the webmaster will activate your login.

Creating/editing an article

Once you are logged in, you can create a new article by clicking the Create article entry in the Main menu to the left. To edit an existing article, first of all read it: then click the Edit icon icon at the top right.

There are a lot of options available - most of which you can quite safely ignore. The important one is the Category. You might also be interested in the Start publishing and Finish publishing dates. These are useful (particularly Finish publishing) if your article is about a specific event (such as a concert, a football match or whatever).

When you've finished, click the Save button. Your new/revised article won't be available straight away; instead, it is submitted to a "publisher" for approval. In the early days, this is the webmaster. This is simply to ensure that the website's policy and style is maintained.

If you want to create a fairly complex article (with embedded pictures, for example) you can do this, but it may be wise to have a conversation with the webmaster first if you are unsure how to do this.

Adding an event to the calendar

When you are logged in, you will see underneath the calendar a collection of links in a grey box. The Add an event link is the one you want. This brings up a window (titled Edit Event, but don't worry about that!).

The Common tab is where you "what", "where" and "who" for the event. Also, set the category: if it's a one-off event, use one of the "special" categories; otherwise use one of the "regular" categories - the category determines the colour-coding of the event in the calendar.

The Calendar tab is where you enter the "where" details. The possibilities for repeating events are very comprehensive. (If you set up a repeating event, it is possible subsequently to change either the whole series, or just one instance - the latter is quite useful if there is one occurrence that falls outside the usual pattern - e.g. because of Christmas).

Don't forget to click Save to save the event!
